NAD (last week) ROAR!
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:05:52 AM »
Decided to downgrade my amp as Im not going to be playing live for a while, so selling my 5150 and have picked up a Redbear mk120 for cheap as chips. never heard of them until i saw this one
Came with 15 year old tubes and original russia dust. but this thing roars, excuse the pun, but its the best way to describe it.
basically an 800 with more gain and stupid amounts of bass, but better to have more than you need than not quite enough.
took to pedals quite nicely, tried it with a ibanez ts9 and sm9 and a rat2, each pedal gave the amp a whole new flavour
so much clarity too, playing "fancy" chords you can hear everything ringin out clearly
so quite happy with my purchase so far, havent had the chance to crank it too much yet though.
would be nice to have an effects loop but if i need one ill just get one put in, should be easy cos its all point to point. now gonna start searching for some new distortion/boost pedals to coax some slightly heavier tones out of this bad boy. New powertubes are on the way now.
also need to get rid of the russian industrial carpet, think ive got some red snakeskin around, otherwise might get some red fur  :D

heres some pics

and the n00dz

Very cool indeed. Personally I like the carper finish - which is also almost indestructible !

My only question is .... why does it seem to have six spark plugs ?

That looks sweet :)

Darn cool man!!!!

These are supposed to be kick a$$.

For a loop, you should look into this one, I heard a lot of positive things about it: http://metroamp.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=499

Just looking at old editions of Guitar, there's a review of the MK60 in my March 1995 issue.
It gets a good review, pity it's a different amp :?

Okay this is a useless post.....

Yeah downsizing in money, not watts  :D
but yeah i saw the spark plug looking things, but didnt investigate further as to what they were. was just doin a quick look around and clean out some of the dust. but it looks like theyre covered by that mysterious metal box between the transformers.
will delve deeper when i change the tubes out

cheers hunter, my mate got the metroamp loop for his ceriatone 800 clone so that was probably going to be my first option once i get around to doing that

yep they're the smoothing caps for the HT line - you can see one between the preamp valves too.

That's a pity. I like the idea of a V6 purring away under the hood in there !
