4 conductor riff raff worth the wait?
« on: May 28, 2009, 09:40:51 PM »
Hi, does anybody have a 4 conductor riff raff? Im wondering if the series/parallel and split sounds are good enough, or if i should get a cheaper/quicker 2 conductor version from a re-seller.
BKPs i have: Riff Raffs, CS bridge.
BKPs i want: NB + Trilogies or ITs.

yeah thats probably what i was leaning towards, i do like extra versitility. Plus the re-seller had the individual pickups listed as "suitable for neck or bridge" with no option to choose which you want. Thats fine . . . until you decide later on in the year you want a calibrated set.

The neck and bridge pickup are wound differently 7.4K neck  and 8.3K bridge if I remember rightly. You can always check against the product details.

The calibrated sets I understand have a little more effort applied to match them (level and tone?) and so will be slightly better matched than two bought seperatly but I doubt there is a huge difference as the QC on BKPs is so good. There are many who know much more about that than me here though.

Eek ! sounds like a recipe for confusion.....

Some resellers may be more thorough than others....
Resellers range from guitar shops on the one hand to technicians and experts on the others

I think that we are pretty up on detail - probably being custom guitar builders makes us that way
We always keep the 4 con versions in stock as it gives you all the options
There are some players who want the single conductor version specifically and we get those in to order

The 4 conductor version will be worth the wait - Riff Raffs coil split nicely

I LOVE the sound of my Riff Raff in parallel for clean stuff, or even for a very laid back rhythm tone. Totally worth the wait!!!!

My SG only has one pickup - a Riff Raff of course - but I can get loads of different sounds with the volume and tone controls plus a series/parallel switch.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Riff Raffs and Abraxas are often under-utilised in many ways are are hidden treasures in the BKP range

Having said that I j ust realised we sold our last set of Riffs this week and have gotten more on order today

I mentioned those especially for you, Ben.

(And if I remember right, you do have a switch with some tone presets on your Agile!)

Thanks for all your replies, you have helped a lot, i think its going to have to be the 4-conductor version. Will be replacing SD P-rails, so should be easy to test all the split, parallel options w/ current wiring  :D

Nice 1 feline on becoming a UK earvana dealer BTW

Always worth the wait.  For a little longer wait you never have to wonder if it is somthing you would have used.  I have got a set of Riff Raffs in one of my guitars and they are nice unfortunatly I bought them cheap second hand and opne of them was 2 conductor.   Great pickups but would be nicer still with the coil split options.
