I'd like to be a better player than I am...

I think most of us on here would like to be better. Not sure how to define what 'better' means to me though!

"Better" to me means "not being completely shitee".   :|

I think I hate being indecisive.

how clean are the clean, how gainy are the gains.
can it do 'shimmering fender cleans' to 'ultra crunch br00talz'?

Bear in mind that the Orion is a custom built amp, so can be set up to suit requirements. Most things apart from the br00talz bit!

What about big fat dirty Doom tones? Matamp/Sunn/Laney Klipp at full tilt vibe?

I like the old Matamps (or White amps made in Sunderland) for doom with whatever fuzz takes your fancy - a RAT is nice for this.

I've a fuzz factory, big muff and a D*A*M Meathead (which is the business) so I just need something to run them into. I have the primal wrecking machine sounds covered wth the 6505+ but I needs me a doom amp. But I'd like it to be one I can actually play at home since I don;t have a gigging doom band, just a recording project.

$%&# that! There's something deeply wrong when doom is not played at ear-shattering volumes!

nfe how about a Laney GH50L? Probably not the best thing for home use as its bloody loud but I like it for a bit of stoner/doom metal type stuff.

Dragonaut with GH50L + Keeley RAT :)

I do agree, we've had a few rehearsals with a view to gigging and it's LOUD.

Incidentally, if anyone is familiar with Berklee rehearsal rooms in Glasgow, Down were rehearsing in there two weeks ago. My mate was guitar teching for Kirk at the Glasgow and Download gigs so was there. In one of the berklee rooms, which aren't enormous, they were rehearsing with their entire stage rig. So four Orange Rockaverb 100s, eight 4x12s, four SVT IIs and four 8x10s.

That's just silly. Maybe a Diezel stack in your flat is actually subtle

EDIT: Tom, yeah, Laneys are certainly an option. Ideally I'd just buy a high output Matamp, but there's every chance the doom thing might stay strictly recording only, so I am keen to find something low output, the Laney GHs are good doom amps, but it's still lots of output.

Maybe what I really need is an iso cab...
