Goodmans Audiom speakers

I'm new to this site.... here goes with a question. I have a pair of Goodmans Audiom 12-P speakers, bought circa 1972, and used very little, guitar only. I have no use for them any more, and wondered if any of the BKP readers would know if they are of any real worth, collector's/sentimental. I've enquired of one or two sites, one reply said they're too modern to interest him.....

Those are classic speakers! I would say -- yes, they do have value, but perhaps not to a player, but most certainly to anyone that makes loudspeaker clones.

I think that they were used in Selmer and Sound City amps around that era.

You won't make a fortune selling them, my guess is £50 ea on a good day with the wind behind them.

I've had a few different Goodmans speakers over the years - those 'Power Range' speakers are quite dark and pair up very nicely with AC30s.  Selmer used them in their mkII-era amps.  Are yours like the ones in the pictures I've attached?

In general, my experience is that you'll get £30 each for them and (if someone is desperate for them in a restoration), £50.00 on a very good day.  They're a hard sell and expect them to hang around for a good while.

Thanks for that. Yes, they are like the ones in the picture. Trouble is, they're 8 ohms, and using 2 with a Selmer T 'n' B 50 as I did means wiring them in series, and 16 ohms is not that good, even though the amp has a 15 ohm socket. Obviously 4 ohms won't do the amp any good at all..... I'll put them up for auction, see what I can get. Thanks for your advice.   Regards,   Dougie

^ +1, the 1ohm difference makes no difference at all.  Many speakers don't even measure the rated resistance anyway - many 16R Celestions measure around 14R, even as low as 10R.  These are nominal values anyway and this will change depending on the frequency going through the speaker.

As if by magic, whilst rummaging in our workshop, for a 16 ohm speaker to put in a JCM800 combo, I've found a pair of these Goodmans!!
