New Matthias Jabs amp - Mastertone (Prosonic?)
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:46:30 PM »

Matthias Jabs has launched his own amp - which looks uncannily like the Fender Prosonic (which is a great amp)

I wonder who is making them for him - Wizard Amps maybe?
Or maybe a German company - Diezel?

DAve - the Prosonic was only 45watts and at the15w class A it was still risking blowing out the windows (and your eardrums)

It's why sgmypod got rid of it and then in turn so did I .....

If I could get a module made for the Randall/ Egnater with the cascading gain like the dirty channel of the prosonic had I would be a happy bunny

BUT - the HTH amp has two gain controls to cascade the gain in much the same way - and it wont cost £3000 either.

PDT_023 WOW... I take it all back.. As I've said playing that Prosonic was like slashing your anaesthetised ear drums with razors - you don't feel it at first but the damage is being done.

Beautiful agony  :?

cheers Jonathon, the cheque is in the mail

looks like a mid-70s amp in terms of styling, I like it in a quirky kind of way.

I hope he's got good lawyers too with that tube/diode rectification switch, Mesa have patented that.  Lord knows HOW they patented it since it's been a common mod for years.  Mesa are known to be aggressive defending their patents.  personally, I wouldn't bother with a valve rectifier unless its a blues tone you want.

Ian - valve rectifier sounded great on the Prosonic.....

And Fender had the Valve/ diode rectifier switch too

It's almost as bizarre as Dimarzio copyrighting dual cream bobbins on their humbuckers, or unequally wound bobbins

The dual gain controls and cascading gain is what Boogie did from the Mk1 onwards, but it's not exclusive.

Don't send a cheque - send the amp

I think the tube fault lights are actually brilliant. i wonder how hard it would be to add a circuit like that to any amp, or make an external troubleshooter box out of that :D

I've been told it's made by an ex Diezel employee.

Unfortunately, like everything on the MJ range, it's on the pricey side. Feature wise this isn't that amazing, and I would assume that it's also not on par with other builders asking that kind of money. So like for the 10,000$ Explorers, you pay for Mathias' name mainly.

I agree
It will be well made - like the Dommenget guitars
The design is basically the Fender Prosonic which can be had for £500-£1000
You are paying for the name (50% of the price)

I like MJ , but I am not a "fanboy"
I would have HTH make me an amp that does his sound and more - or have a Randall Module modifed to nail the sound, but I wouldn't buy the amp.
I am lucky that I could build an Explorer 90 should I wish.....

the spec was on the prosonic
1. Solid-state rectification with fixed bias (marked "S.S. AB2"). Listed at 60 Watts R.M.S.
2. Tube rectification with fixed bias (marked "AB2"). Listed at 50 Watts R.M.S.
3. Tube rectification with cathode bias (marked "A"). Listed at 30 Watts R.M.S.

but even on 30 way to loud..at time wasn't in band...might of kept it if I was

Thanks for that correction
Was a great sound but punishing to use inside house or flat as it pushed out some serious sound pressure

My Budda SD30 had tube rectification and it was able to sound pretty heavy ... wait a sec, aren't Mesa Rectifiers supposed to be teh Metal Machines?

What was so great about it was it had the lushest clean sound - best I've ever heard in some ways
It was somewhere between a Fender Blackface and a Vox with a huge reverb on the combo version

The lead sound was akin to a Soldano meets a Mk 1/2 boogie - it could sear  on leadlines , as well as give great rhythm guitar

The shared EQ didn't seem to be too much of a bother either
Think I will try out my Egnater & Randall modules to try to get the same effect for when Playing Scorps stuff
