Pickups for Ibanez RG7321
« on: September 30, 2009, 09:26:03 PM »
Im saving for a 7-String Ibanez RG7321, and right out of the door I'm planning on switching the stock pickups with a pair of Bare Knuckle's, but im not sure which one's to go for, first I thought nailbombs and then the warpig's interested me. I usually play progressive metal/math metal or death metal, along the lines of Gojira, Architects,  Meshuggah, Mastodon, Opeth, Pig Destroyer & Dillinger Escape Plan, so I'm sort of looking for something with a big bottom end for those crushing riffs, but enough top end to get that sort of weird math-y sound. What would you guy's recommend? Right now im rocking a Gibson V with a pair of 81/85's

Thanks very much :)

probably a painkiller if you like it mathy, you need something very very clear and cutting, not that warpigs and nailbombs arent clear and cutting. For anything mathy I'd say painkiller or Coldsweat. I think those two would suit all your needs besides Mastodon and Opeth (architects I've never listened to). For Mastodon and Opeth, something Alnico 5 would suit better since they have a darker and less brutal sound than the other bands mentioned. I tried.

Tough choice, for some bands like Opeth definitely Nailbomb and for some of the others a Painkiller would be best
