Last night was TO rehearsal, and I had quantifiable evidence to the superiortiy of the God Tone. :)
I was playing my Gajic/BKP kamikaze guitar (Miracle Man/Irish Tour), thru the following pedals (all HBE):
Dos Mos > CPE > Big D
Amp was a Diezel VH4. Not my favourite amp, but I like where the cab sits in the room, so I used it anyway, lol.
About 1/2 way through the first song, the battery died in my Big D. No biggie, I switched from channel 2 to channel 3 on the VH4 and continued to play the set with the amp's gain.
After set #1, I ran to the vending machine and got a fresh 9v. After plugging it in, and going back to channel 2, there is was: the G O D T O N E !!
Comparisons: Without the Big D, the tone was too thick, too muddy, and too modern sounding - ie, no mids. Once the Big D was back in the signal chain adding a bit of gain, it all snapped back into focus: the guitar cut thru the mix like perfection, the mids came back, effortless pinch harmonics, legato was a snap, etc etc. It was instant Lynchness! Verdict: The Miracle Man is probably the best metal pickup out there right now. (Haven't tried a Warpig, of course, or a couple of others) It turned out to be a very good experiment for the Big D, too, because even when I wasn't using it, I was still using the Dos Mos/CPR combo, which is no slouch. I've never liked compression, but the CPR is just so amazing, I'm loving it!! With the Big D providing the extra push, tho, as well as all that TONE, the sound was .... GODLY!!!
