Now I understand the fuss about Diezel
« on: November 08, 2009, 07:10:38 PM »
Was at the Music Live show today. Diezel happened to be there with some Blackmachines and a Jaden Rose 7 string.

Went up to the stall and a nice guy came up and offered for me to try out an amp.

Plugged into the VH-4 with the Jaden Rose (don't know why I didn't pick the Blackmachine) and it was freaking awesome.

No matter what I did with the Gain it stayed clear and very punchy. Played some death metalish riffs with it and it kicked out hard. Had a few guys come over to listen in and then they sat down to try them out too (this happened again when I tried an ESP into the new Spider IV amps)

Only disappointment was the lead tone. Kind of lacked compared to the rhythm tone I could get. But might of been the guitar I was using.

Very awesome amps, shame I don't have the money for one though.

Did you ever try a Blackmachine in the end? How was the JR?

When I think of Diezel I think more balls to the wall rhythm than lead.

Yeah I was there and heard a few guys playing them... I was surprised how much note definition there was for such high gain!

However, the show was a real disappointment, total waste of time. I won't be going again... I thought the 10th year would be a marked improvement on recent years but no. What a load of sh!te.

Dead on, the Diezel coupled with something like a Mesa or even a Laney for leads would be amazing.

I didn't try the Blackmachine in the end, would of liked to as last time I touched one was an 8 string that Doug just finished and I didn't like it. But these were Tele shaped with flame inlays.

It hasn't been all that great for a number of years now. Even less stalls this time round than compared to 3 years ago.

Guitars seemed more expensive and some of the guys working the stalls were pillocks. Spent more time talking to their mates than being of any help.

Got out with a Korg Pitchblack tuner for £49 though and a couple of CD's (Thomas Blug and Jan Cyrka)

Came close to buying a gorgeous Japanese Strat with Irish Tours. Very fat neck, sounded and played fantastic, best I've ever played. But the guy who ran the place wouldn't budge on the £430 price tag which was just a bit too much than what I wanted to pay.

Thinking of getting a custom neck made for my Strat now though

£430 on a Japanese Strat is pretty good actually, especially with Irish Tours already in it. They don't budge under £500 or high £4xx.

I think the Telecaster Flame Inlay Blackmachine is just specifically for shows, its always popped up when they do shows plus its on their website I believe as the first few when they started I think? I don't know much.

Shame the show was shite (alliteration!)

Yeah, but I thought I could try my luck  :P

I managed to get my Japanese Strat (68 reissue) for just over £300 and that was about 9/10 years ago now, just hoping to get another Jap Strat for nearer that price

Cool, yeah I didn't understand the fuss until I had a chance to sit with a VH4. I owned one within a month of that, and it's just as fun nearly 2 years later.
The lead tone issue might have been the guitar as you say - the VH4 has some of the nicest leads I've experienced.

The Blackmachines would have been Jamie's (Diezel UK). They're old school BMs, but very meaty sounding.

im lucky enough to own a vh4, and when the eq on channel 4 is dialed in right a very nice lead sound is there. as nolly pointed out the flame inlay blackmachines belong to jamie. any idea when doug made those ones? not a massive fan but interesting...

I don't know exactly when, but it would be back near the beginning of Doug starting to build under the Blackmachine brand. The inlays aren't my thing either, they always seemed slightly incongrous with the BM aesthetics, but the metal/inlay work involved is impressive.

I recall Doug doing those ones about 8 years ago roughly speaking

On the Diezel front - saw Y&T on Saturday night and they were using Diezel - using only channel 3 and using the guitars controls to roll back into cleanish tones
