FX loop output is line level, right?
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:23:44 PM »
On a powerball, not that I expect that would be any different.

I can take the out from that and line it into one of the normal everyday line level inputs on my interface, correct? The interface in question is a fireface 800. Line ins in the front and stereo pairs on the back. http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_800.php

I'm 99% sure I can, but gotta be certain/know if I'm wrong before I blow something up.

Never mind, tried it, it works and sounds unfathomably bad.

A good DI between the line out/FX send and the Fireface wouldn't do any harm.

Which software did you intend to use for the cab emulation?

Yep, a swarm of the bar-stewards!

I was going to use some random impulses in reaper, but given that I also have an MD421, SM57 and audix i5 to choose from/combine, all sitting infront of an ubercab, and how utterly spectacularly inferior to those (even poorly placed, as they were when I made that post) the DI was, I'm not gonna bother. Moved a couple of mics a couple of cm, if that, and made some tweaks and I'm getting a decent sound now. A little more adjustment and I might be able to proceed with it with the recording

This post was brought to you by the letter M, for Mic Placement and the number 89304732, the number of attempts required to find one with magical tonal powers that you know surely must be infront of that speaker somewhere. In recording, mic placement is GOD, and I shouldnt have forgotten The Lord and disrespected Him and played with the heathen DI when carefull mic placement was what was needed. I'm just glad I havent fallen to the idolatry of a modeller or VST in this particular mission. My pod and tonelab are making superb, but quite tempting dust collectors
