That's good advice, I'll definitely be doing that! The power amp alone weighs more than most heads I've had... weird!

That's because it is stereo and has two Output Transformers. ;)

So how're you're liking the 2502?

By the way, if you wanna check bias, you can do that with a multi meter, I snagged once the advice from Steve off the VHT forum:

"You don't have to install 1 ohm resistors to use a DVM. There already is a resistor in each plate circuit in the form of the output transformer primary resistance.

To read the bias for each tube, first read the resistance of each half of the OT primary - Red to Blue and Red to Brown leads (power off for a while) and then the voltage drop with BOTH standby switches on after warm-up - Red to Blue and Red to Brown.

The resistance is typically around 38-40 ohms. Normally the voltage reading will be in the range of 1.35 - 1.5VDC. So for example: 1.5/39=0.038 or 38mA.

Observe all of the usual precautions...!

Not had a chance to try it yet, the pre-amp will be here tomorrow though! It'll be good to hear where the tones take me, I'm guessing I'll need another preamp to cover some more tones but hopefully the ada will be hair metal paradise  8)

I'm trying to track down a Mesa studio pre - I've had a couple pms on other forums from people basically saying ' I have one but I wont sell it easily!' what am I ment to say to that lol... I'm not going to pay more than its worth so eff off!

The spider engineering rack case I bought is total shiteee, total waste of money - the build quality is embarrassing, it's more likely going to be used as a dirty laundry bin than a rack.

Still looking for a cheap way to get those 80s rack delay and verb tones too! I'm watching pcms and there are a few cheap mpx-1s about on ebay. I could just buy a Providence pedal, but not enough lights  :p

Get a TC Electronics 2290 for delay !
Or look at a TC Electronic D2 or Line 6 Delay Pro if you want a dedicated delay unit

Lexicon reverbs are nice although I am pretty happy with my TC Electronics one

The G major isn't bad , although I have a G Force in my "Upstairs rack"

Yamaha SPX90s were all the rage in the late 80s but I felt they had flaws in some areas

hah I can't afford a 2290!! They are like 2 grand on the bay!

Just did a search on D2 - I can afford that!!   Is it just the delays from the G-Force or something?

edit - it's based on the 2290! Hmmmm!

You'll be pleased to find that the ADA MP1 (Mod4Mk2) has an IEC socket on the end of it's shortened mains cable - this will plug straight into the Samson with no modification required

Cool, I'll open the package up in a bit  8)

This rack is so bad, the handles on the sides are attached from the inside and they go so wide you can't fit racks in the middle as the space is too narrow....

WTB a 2u and 4u rack case!!

I have a 3u full aluminium one with removable front and back that used to house my Marshall power amp
The extra 1U will come in useful or give extra air circulation?

It's also not excessively deep which is good news with something weighty  as a deep case means the weight is all at the front and it's harder to carry

I'll have a think and get back to ya.  Good idea about the breathing room - Nolly suggested the same.

Did you use this mp-1 much? Did you make the presets?

I'm sat down with a cuppa and the Wagener, Nuno and Gilbert settings  :D

No - I used to use it when it was a stock MP1 and then I sent it off to be modded and acquired a load more MP1s at the same time ( I traded one of my guitars with the owner of ADAdepot (now sadly died) and ended up with more ADA stuff than I could shake a stick at)

So I tended to dial in a tone for that evening from one or other of the units and play a bit but never really saved any patches.
Trouble is that I dont have as much time for playing as I'd like - work takes it's toll
Then I got carried away with the Egnater stuff and have ended up selling most of the ADA stuff

Beware of the pro patch settings that you've got for the stock MP1 - they will sound very different on the modded unit.
You may have to use your ears rather than the settings on the list

Once you get the hang of it - changing the settings on the MP1 gets pretty quick

I found the Mod4 version gives a lot more mids so you may have to have a lower midrange setting for certain players tones
It certainly captures that late 80s tone though, although there is so much gain available with this mod it can get a bit noisy.
Most great tones can actually be had with the gain/drive levels lower than you would think which helps keep the noise floor under ontrol.
