VH 11 SOUND OFF
« on: January 04, 2010, 06:38:46 PM »
Hey everyone,

I was wonering if any of you VH11 users could post something on your take of the pickup and it's tonal qualities.  I'm considering them for both a Paul and in the bridge of a Strat.

Can't help you on the bridge model, but the VHII neck is absolutely fantastic - full, warm with a wonderful "chime" on the clean channel & that great "oooo" vowel sound for neck leads.  It's exactly what I understand by the term "hot PAF" & is a great match for any of the high gain bridge models (just as good as the Cold Sweat neck which is possibly the most popular BKP neck model).

Hi, I have had a VHII set in a LP I did like the neck, however I was not happy with the bridge, I would say it was a little too much like a single coil, I now have Crawlers in the LP and it sounds great, I fitted the VHIIs to my Eggle Berlin Plus, the outcome is the same still don't like the bridge much, I have seven sets of BKPs humbuckers the VHIIs are my least favourite, well the bridge anyhow!

I can add my two cents for the neck, its awesome; which is weird considering EVH never used a neck pickup!

I have the bridge pickup in a les paul and a superstrat; i would say that its's a very individual sound.  I think it's def one of the most intresting sounding pickups in terms of the complexity of the tone, it is quite bright and chimey in places and it does have some single coil like sounds at low break up.  I personally prefer the sound in the super strat it seems a good match and tone wise its my fav combination; perfect for a bit of Somebody get me a doctor. As for the les paul - i'm not completely sold, it feels like i'm missing out a little bit on the guts and growl of the les paul sound.

I have them in a Yamaha SG and they're amazing. They will of course to the Ed sound to a T. They're a very articulate pickup. Personally i love the bridge pickup. Don't find it to be like a single coil. Clean or with distortion it sounds great and really picks up on your attack and nuances of your playing.

I tried my friend's VHII-set in my neck-thru Jackson and I liked them alot. Very nice EVH-tone, tight and articulate - good for '80 hard rock. I didn't find them to be like single coil either...

I liked them so much that I ordered yesterday green VHII-set for my Floyd Rose Stratocaster.

Edit: Bainzy's nice VHII clip - For that kind of stuff it is great pu: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2581.0

they don't sound like a single coil, but I understand what is meant by that. in fender-type guitars the coil offset does bring out the Fender chimey quality top-end which sits well with single coils. A great HSS set is VH2 combined with Irish Tours.

i like Hunter's Les Paul VH2 clips alot.

The HSS VHII/ Irish tour is the exact set I was going to go with.  Do you think the Mule/ Irsh Tour HSS set would round out any treble issue?
