What to do.....
« on: November 20, 2005, 04:20:17 PM »
hey i am sure you guys are probably sick of getting posts like this, but i have to know what you can suggest for me bk wise.
I play an Ibanez sz520 and i love it but i feel the stock pickups are lacking.
the styles i like and play ( try to ) are:

avenged sevenfold
coheed and cambria
Hendrix
finch
bls
funeral for a friend
zeppelin
so i guess its fair to say i like the heavy with the mellow too

the pickups i have been thinking about are the nail bomb (which the sound clips impress but i fear they may be too harsh), warpig ( the versitility is appealing) and cold sweat (which i dont know much about).

i know most will probably tell me nail bomb for the clean and dirty that i am looking for, but are the cold sweat pickups in the same league bursting with harmonics? and will they suit my style?

any suggestions will be a great help cheers guys!

The Nailbomb would suite you very well I think, Its got a vintage edge because of the fact it is wound with vintage plain enamel wire.  The Cold sweat is a great rock pickup with screaming harmonics, but It wont clean up so well because of the ceramic magnet.

^^do you want to go with a calibrated set, or would you be willing to get, say, a warpig/nailbomb bridge to cover the heavier stuff (although their cleans are meant to be awesome too!), and then get something less heavy (vh2, something like that) for the mellower stuff?

yeah i guess i would consider it, but i am on a tight budget i am a student after all!  it may actually play into my hands well as i wouldn't have to fork out for both at the same time.
But is it possible to buy say a nailbomb for the bridge then wait a few months and then get a calibrated one for the neck?

don't see why not... (you'd need to check with someone who knows though...)

i think you save £10 or something like that when you order them both at once, though...

You can buy a bridge and then a neck later If you like, thats no problem.
