Need advice for single coil pickups for esp sugizo s-1
Hi guys, purchasing a new set of single coil pickups for my esp sugizo s-1, the stock ones are hot rails which are too hot!! (lost the original antiquities). So my style of music is (radiohead, muse, coldplay, luna sea, alterbridge, porcupine tree and this guitar will be used for modern rock and alternative)

basically a rock and alternative guitar for searing and singing lead tones and rythm (sugizo of luna sea and steven wilson of porcupine tree are a good example), and clean atmospheric tones (eg. coldplay, radiohead) . No vintage tones for this guitar, however, clean tones is a must!!! (coldplay, radiohead clean modern tones, not vintage straty tones as i have strat for that.

Also, is wiring 2 singlecoil in series gives it a meatier tone? Because thats what im planning on doing as it would make the guitar more versatile with some semi humbucking tones. I dont need straty position 2 and 4 quack tones because i have a strat for that

So which pickup combination is great for this type of sound? Here are my previous choices but would like to hear opinions on bareknuckles pickups :)

1) lace sensor blue silver red set
2) lace sensor hot gold / holy grail
3) lace sensor chrome dome
4) SD lil59, duck, JBjr
5) SD classic stack
6) fralin high outout (non silent)
7) Emg sa set

Any BKP advices here? Do BKP make lipless single coils? The guitar i want to install the pickups wont allow a standard single coil shape to fit..

This is the guitar im installing to:

ESP Eclipse S-I Brilliant MixedMedia
Body: Alder
Neck: 3-piece Hard Maple
Fingerboard: Ebony (24 frets)
Scale Length: 628mm
Nut: Locking
Construction: through Neck
Bridge: Original Floyd Rose with extra large brass block
current Pickups: Seymour Duncan Hot Rails
Controls: Master Volume, 5-way lever Pickup selector, active midboost switch, and no tone controls, just a single volume control

That's a lovely guitar. Congrats, man! Having not had much experience with the BKP single coils, I can't actually give an informed BKP suggestion. I have used the Duncan stacks and mini-humbuckers, though. Personally, I'd avoid the 'lil'59 and JB jr. They're OK, but they're only OK. I quite liked the Cool Rails I've used, but in my experience, DiMarzio makes better mini-humbuckers.

The Duncan classic stack are really nice, though. They sound exactly like SSL1s (vintage true singles), but with absolutely no hum. I didn't like the classic stack in the bridge, though, because it was far too authentic (bright, thin, and vintage-sounding). Of course, Duncan has brought out a Hot Stack Plus now, which apparently is warmer, fatter, and more modern-sounding.
BKPs (soon): CS, TS.
Ex-BKPs: Abrax, NB, SM, PK, Mule, WP.

Can't help too much on the choice of BKPs except to say "I've got Irish Tours, love em, they'd probably be OK for you, but there might be a better choice..."

Can't help on the size question either...

But(!) I can add to the two singles in series question :D

Your pickup positions look quite similar to the pickups on Brian May's Red Special. I got one for Christmas, and found out that with the Burns Tri-Sonic Pickups, the Red Special is basically a strat/tele guitar but with the pickups wired in series. The pickups selected individually do indeed sound like a cross between a strat or a tele in the same position - the bridge is the most strat-like comparison, the other pickups aren't in quite the same place along the string.

But when you combine them, magic starts happening...

Bridge + Middle in series does indeed sound something like a meaty bridge humbucker, and Neck + Middle like a neck humbucker but with a bit more bite.

Apart from the fact that I love the standard 2 and 4 positions on a strat, I am seriously considering converting one of my strats to series wiring instead...

(Interestingly though, I understand that Mr May himself has recently had his gigging copy of the Red Special converted to standard parallel wiring to make it behave more like a strat... not sure what that's about)

Thanks about the series wiring advice :) guess thats what ill be doing, because i have a strat for the position 2 and 4 sound. Im thinking about the trilogy suite, would that match the sound im looking for?
