It is a Yamaha YSG - there was an early series which are quite sought after - really nice bulids - then a Series II - this is a later one. Very PRS inspired - very little information out there about them - not sure that many were exported - tough to date too, as Yamaha serial numbers repeat - I picked this up on a whim, to fill a shipment from Japan - will be for sale shortly. Came with a nice Orville Les Paul and a 'project' SG2000 - needs lots of TLC!

Back to the YSG

Twin humbuckers
Set neck
24 frets
Rosewood board
Medium/large frets
Yamaha trem (missing the arm but should be able to get a replacement)
Body shape is nicely contoured (a la PRS)
Can't tell what sort of wood is in these as it is all lacquered

Here is close up of body:

Forget "metal" guitar...

Go for a Vintage. Any of the V100 series are awesome. as long as it's mahogany and set neck, he'll be good to go.

YSG on eBay tonight...

I followed some forum advice and polished the board and frets using lemon oil and some 0000 wire wool (Liberon) - worked a treat! I think some more of my guitars will be getting the 0000 treatment!

Then it'll also LOOK metal :D

terrible bridge on those ibbies (my right hand begins to hurt seriously after 30 minutes...), but they're really good and look killer!
just replace at least the damn saddles.
