Crawler options
« on: January 28, 2010, 07:45:42 PM »
Hi, I have a Relic strat (rosewood board) with a crawler bridge humbucker (sacrilege I know, but I need the flexibility) and two mothers milk single coils, through a Rivera Fandango 2x12 EL34 amp.
I do like midrangey pickups but I'm looking for something a bit tighter than the Crawler.
Was in an alt rock covers band and the crawler was sweet for that.......now in a fem rock band ala Katy Perry / Avril Livigne etc (no laughing at the back please....I need the £'s).

So, Holy Diver, cold sweat or rebel?

Thanks
Jim

Holydiver or Nailbomb both should be tight,(A5) Cold Sweat (ceramic) should also be a good option.

Hi I have a Feline dinky with two mothers milk and a VHII. That combination works nice. What I would say is there is a definate increase in volume swaping from the single coils to the hambuckler.  Works nice for me. I would imagine that the volume difference would be much greater with a Nailbomb or Holydriver and that if you were going down that route two volumes may be the way forward. I have not tried the Holydriver but do have a guitar with Nailbombs in.  For me Nailbomb and mothers milk is not a combination I would reccomend.  Im sure some of the other guys will be able to tell you more on the holydriver.

Hope it helps

What RR has said is correct, I have two MM with a HD and the volume difference is quite big, however you already have a Crawler, a strong pickup itself, so this may not concern you! the HD in single coil mode does work very well with the MM, I only have my HD as a humbucker when it is used by itself, RRs use of the VHII would work well with the MMs, however not as tight as your Crawler,

Hi, yes the vol difference between the MM's and the crawler isn't a big issue for me as I only really use
position 1 Full humbucker or position 4 Neck and middle MM's.
Looked at the VHII but like you said thought it was a little too loose for what I'm looking for.
Still thinking HD but not sure if it is tighter than the crawler.
Cheers

I have both Crawler and HD (and Nailbomb) IMHO the HD has a tighter more modern sound, as does the Nailbomb! I think that I would ask Tim he wont steer you wrong.

never played the crawler, but the nailbomb is much louder than the holy diver
it's tighter too, but holy diver diver is quite tight, unless you downtune over 2 full steps
the holy diver is more midrangey though, while the nailbomb has flat mids and a brighter top
