Rebel Yells talk to me....

Yes, it's me, the Duncan Distortion guy. I want someone with some Rebel Yells to give me the low down on these pickups. '76 Les Paul Custom, Marshall JCM 800 2203, GO!

Have you listened to the Steve Stevens clip from the player's section? It's good; really good.

I see that on the other thread you were recommended the Cold Sweat. I own a calibrated set of Cold Sweats and the other strong contender for that particular guitar were the Rebel Yells, so I might be able to help you :)

I have the Cold Sweats in a PRS McCarty, a guitar with a warm but clear tone. Lightweight guitar with a lot of midrange. The cold sweats sound awesome in it, think John Sykes's tone. They were Tim's recommendation and it was spot on. They also have a full and tight bottom, no flub. It's bright, but it's NOT harsh (in this guitar). Just the right kind of cut for me.

Comparing the RY and the CS: CS is a bit hotter, has more neutral mids and more bite in the highs. RY has a warmer top and more aggressive mids, a bit less output. So, it really comes down to what you want from the pickups, and what your LP sounds like acoustically.

Zaned is right.  The acoustic sound of your LP is very important. If it's bright and articulate when strummed unplugged you may want to go with the Rebel Yell to round out the edges a bit.

I have a very bright articulate PRS that Rebel Yells did not agree with. They are meant for BIG dark sounding Les Pauls. You risk the highs becoming ice picky and certain single coil esque high frequencies CANNOT be dialled out. Especially if you are using a clean/clear amp like a Splawn.
