Hi all, been lurking around here for a while; have to say it's a great forum and having heard a few of your recordings there's some awesome guitar pickers around!
Anyhoo, I'm about to buy a new Ibanez AR200 (Artist Reissue). It's basically a double-cut Les Paul type, with a mahogony body, flame maple top, set maple neck and rosewood 'board. Thing is, having played it in the shop, the stock pickups are okay, but nothing better and I've sold me USA Tele' to buy thsi guitar so it deserves some decent pickups! I'm playing through a Laney LC15R (with Harma valves).
A friend of mine uses BKP's in all his quitars and always has a great tone.
The kind of sound I'm after is kind of alternative/classic rock, like (and I'm going to sound like a right fan-boy here!) Omar Rodriguez Lopez's tones he got in parts of Mars Volta's Deloused in the Comatorium (especially the song "Cicatriz ESP). It's quite dark and thick, with plenty of character and a real organic quality. I beleive he was platying an SG through an Orange through most of the album.
I'm not after anything metal, more a classic, open, organic sound but quite dark. It kind of sits in the middle of Santana/Led Zeppelin but with more gain on the heavy rhythm and lead parts (the amp doing most of the work), and the cleans sound a bit like John McLoughlin's work with Miles Davis, spacey I guess.
makes me think the Abraxas would be great, and having heard the sound clips on here, I really like it, but a lot of you seem to favour the mules or black dogs...
Any suggestions?
