VOX Tones!!!
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:37:18 PM »
Hello fellow BKP ers!

My day to day amp needs are really down the Marshall front and my fantastic Diezel covers all those bases brilliantly.

I have always had a soft spot for vox's though and never owned one. I am after an amp that can provide that signature vox chimey crunch which I can match up with a decent high gain pedal or booster to give vox toned creamy leads.

Surprisingly, whilst there are loads of alternatives for the marshally minded, there are few for the vox fans (unless its actually a vox). I have nothing against this - I am just surprised that there isn't more choice.

I am currently thinking along the lines of the new vox ac15c1 (recently reviewed in guitarist) together with the Rory Gallagher hawk booster pedal or maybe the vox satchurator?

I love the jangly crunchy tones you can get out of this setup but I do need some gain for my style of lead work and vox's alone just don't lend themselves to that.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers Matt

+1 on this amp! I tried it not long ago with a Tele, and it sounded lovely, certainly a lot better than the Custom Classic.
Driving in my car, smoking my cigar, the only time i'm happys when i'm playing my guitar!

the custom classic was shite (the one i tried, anyway- it was s/h so may have been faulty or had old valves).

I didn't like the custom classic either but the new custom series is apparently a lot better  :?

Everyone should have vox tones :D

I'm loving my AC4TV, but I'm guessing that, loud as it is, it won't be loud enough (and I'd recommend the head and cab version if you go for it, I'm getting plenty of nice valve rattling noises out of the combo if I turn it up to "the-missus-is-out" volumes, no issue for me, but I guess it might have problems if I was running it full tilt all the time in gigs/rehearsals).

I get all the drive I want out of it without a pedal... (I even bought one, and ended up not using it )
