Geoff Whitehorn set?
« on: October 22, 2010, 01:02:11 AM »
Hello folks,

I was wondering, has anyone here seen the TV concerts of Geoff whitehorn live with Procol Harum, and happen to know what pickups he's using for the major lead solos?
Is it his BKP Crawler humbucker and/or matched HSS BKP set or what?

Happens I really love his tone on the big lead solos, it sounds sweet yet full with plenty of mids and a sort of elastic quality.

With my old simples setup, just a HSS Strat, EL84-powered valve combo and Boss pedals, I used to get a similar sound quite easily -  i.e. yes I agree with people that say the majority of tone is in the hands, (and the ears as well, to fine tune all the pots and settings etc.)

Nevertheless pickups are a big ingredient, even with my much-evolved setup, and I just wondered if anyone knew.

Fans of his, or his roadies, or friends of friends of friends...Anyone!???

Geoff Whitehorn uses his signature BKP Crawler and Irish Tours. I saw he has a new Fretking HSS-strat-copy with Crawler, IT (middle) en Missisippi Queen (neck). All three great pickups. I use a Crawler with Irish Tours in my MXG Customstrat (swampash, maple neck, ebony fretboard). A very balanced combination. Crawler splitted with the IT gives splendid Fenderish quack.  Full Crawler (nonsplitted) with middle-IT produces a fatter stratty sound, great for fusionsolo's. All pickups clean up very well with vol.knob rolled down a bit. Crawler is very creamy but balanced with the power you need to rock out. The IT's can do pristine cleans, especially with vol.knob rolled down just a tad. I can really recommend this combination.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

If the concert was more than5-6 years old it wont be BKP, may be Seymour Duncan, although the Crawler is designed to get the signature tone that Geoff likes
