I get the date thing.

I used to think that my Orange was made in 1971, the year of my birth.  I'm now more of the opinion that it was born in 1972...

But is it really that steep for what it is? I thought the V's were like the Explorers - not a peep on them since their "failure" in 58/59, and then suddenly the re-issues in mahogany in 75... and those are the ones that our heroes of a certain age bought and used... so to find one in this condition, I'd have expected it to be even sillier money? (Or am I completely out of touch on this kind of thing?)

The mahogany V models were first issued in '67, whereas there were no Explorers between the late '50s and the mid-'70s.  So I'd guess there are more vintage Vs around than vintage Explorers.

As for prices, you can debate them till the cows come home, it's worth whatever someone's prepared to pay for it I guess.  But I still think £4,500 is a lot for a basic mahogany V.

Ah... I did wonder that afterwards Philly...

Eg. It had me wondering "how come Andy Powell's got a V in early Wishbone Ash... surely he hasn't got one of the 50's ones?!!!"

And then of course, lots of other artists...

Excuse me for the brain-f@rt at lunchtime . I knew about the Explorer thing... and I just tend to think of the V as it's little sister!

So, hmmm, a 75 Explorer in this condition... would we be expecting to pay around this much?!

And, slightly more "on topic" -

In that case, gwem, get that b@stard beaten down to a more (less?) fashionable price... :D

Its clearly over priced by at least a third, and maybe more.

I wasn't joking when i said the gwEm coffers are empty this month though. Lets see what happens in the next couple of months there. Clearly the approach here is to meet him and make a deal. Don't want to waste anyones time though.

I had a feeling that would be the case (otherwise you probably wouldn't have posted it in the first place!)... really glad it is the case though... :D

Year of my birth too. I bought a '75 tele based purely on that. Completely ridiculous thing to do!

I know what you mean, but there is something cool about owning things from the year of your birth.

I used to have a '64 SG Special.  Now I carry around a '64 half crown and a '64 thrupenny bit.  A lot cheaper and more portable.

I know what y'all mean! My first guitar was actually from the year of my birth ('88) and man never shoulda sold it! I know i'mma young pup lol no need to mention.  What a pretty guitar that was though; traded it with a cr@p SG for a '51 Epiphone Devon, which then again i eventually sold for stupid cheap to a friend because i was afraid id break it lol i put a crack in the top the first day i had it lol That's why i stay with solid body guitars lol they only dent, no worries there 0=)
=) Cheers and God bless =)

If music was a beast, i'd have the sweetest saddle =)
