Will the gold pole worn out?

Can the gold pole screws/slugs on an open-poled pickup last?
Or will they fade easily just as other gold hardwares?

unless you use some kind of lacquer, they will likely wear out faster than regular poles

But at least you're not resting your hand on them, like you do with the bridge and the top edges of pickup covers - those are the parts which show most wear.
