Pickup for basswood superstrat?
« on: May 20, 2010, 01:55:55 AM »
Looking for a pickup suggestion for my next guitar project. Planning a basswood Jackson-styled body with a quilt maple top and a maple/maple fingerboard and Wilkinson trem (ala John Suhr's "holy grail" tone formula). Music is classic rock, 80's hair bands, etc. Looking for an all-around rock pickup. Would that be Rebel Yells, Holydivers or something else? Thanks.

all around rock pickup?  Rig details?

I just put a A-Bomb (alnico Nailbomb) in a Basswood/Maple Maple single humbucker strat.  Organic, curbed the brightness of the maple beautifully.  I also bought a Diver and put it in a similar strat, my initial observation is the Diver has less output than the Nailbomb.  Both are wonderful, articulate pickups, depending on how much gain you're using, etc., I would suggest the Nailbomb.    They are both still new, so again, just my initial observations on the tonewood combination you're proposing.

FYI, Nolly seems to be real happy with the Rebel Yell he's just gotten...might be another option, I'm just speaking from my experience.

So many pickups, so little money.... :(

You are all $%&#ed and overrated, I think I'm going to be sick, and it's your fault.

all around rock pickup?

Well, my playing runs the gamut from SRV and Clapton to ZZ Top, Van Halen and Richie Sambora/Def Leppard/80's hair band stuff. I have a couple of strats for the clean and overdriven blues stuff and a mahogany strat-styled body with a maple cap and maple/maple fingerboard with some vintage-hot humbuckers in it a 9.2 alnico V in the bridge and an 8.3 alnico IV in the neck. My main amp is a JVM410h into a 1960B cab with Celestion GT75s.

Looking for a pickup for the new project that will handle additional humbucker duties. I've been looking at the Rebel Yells and the Nailbombs.
