Anyone using a MJW Roadster TT
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:25:14 AM »
Hi,

Is anyone playing a MJW Roadster TT.  I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these and I'd be interested in your views on the types of music you are playing... you know the sort of thing, the types of tones you get from it.  Could you laos let me know about the cleans?

I've been gigging the Roadstar 36 (non TT) with 6V6's and valve rectifier for over a year now. I play indie/rock/pop covers in my bands, the amp's been out pretty much every weekend. My amp sits somewhere between marshall and fender, the cleans are clean but with a slightly harder attack to them, than say a Twin etc. The amp is amazing with pedals, and you can hear very subtle differences between guitars. I play quite loud so i normally have the power amp just clipping, so there is a touch of grit to the sound, easily cleaned up with the guitars volume control. Also this amp has made me think about using the guitars tone control's too, very responsive amp.

Can't comment on the EL84 TT version, not until Martin completes my next ordered amp  8)

Thanks for the reply... how do you get on with not having a B/M/T tone stack?

Glad to here the amp gets on well with pedals... do you have the Fx loop option?

I'm seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on a Roadster TT - especially having the extra pre for a bit more gain

i didn't need the fx loop as there was no pre-amp gain. In my next one which is a TT i'm having the loop option as i want the pre-amp gain to go into a Delay pedal, not the other way around.

I find the single tone control very nice, it's a very full sounding amp to begin with so the tone acts like it is, maybe martin can help out more with a description of that??! I tend to run mine with the Tone just under half the way up, using strats and teles, a little bit higher if using humbuckers.

With it being a simple/pure sounding amp, i've found speakers make a pretty big difference to the overall tone.

If your anywhere near Leicester you can always drop in to try mine.
