SO

I sold my Decatone... I liked it, but since I'm planning a few things that will make it redundant, and I kind of need space and cash, I decided to sell it. Kind of sad because it had some really good tones. At least I got to crank it up live!

When I looked through the front panel to give everything the once over before the sale, i noticed the Philips 12AX7 in V1 had a white top on it. That looked a bit abnormal to me, so I decided to try and take it out and have a look, only when I tried to remove it (being careful/gentle as usual) I somehow pulled the glass apart leaving the pins in the socket!

Now, I gigged this amp at my bands last show, it was fine, we headlined so it had warm up and cool down time and it was taken to and from the show in a taxi. after I got it back to my place, it was never used or even really looked at until last night... so i have no idea what happened to that tube.

maybe the the jar was just brittle.

nope,
I did go and see frank a while back though and he showed me what he had done and we talked about it a lot. A lot of people have offered suggestion but its always stuff thats been checked by now.

I debated getting some new boards and swapping the PCB's. I almost feel like, if i'm going to do that im might build another. taking it VERY slowly, and posting pics to other people who have built a working one to check over.

I also have enough info to build a decatone if it came to that. the crunch channel was DAMN good.
Now i have a use for a bass i've also thought about recycling that clone and turning it into a bass amp.

its all just ideas floating around though

I've had this before-- went to pull a valve out, and ended up with the envelope in my hand, with the rest of it still stuck in the socket; took ages to finally get all the bits out! I believe that the base of the valve, and the main envelope are formed separately (the pins are formed into the base, then the rest of the valve is built on to them, then the envelope is attatched), so in some cases older valves can fail like this... still strange though!
