High e Bug
« on: August 07, 2010, 02:17:00 PM »
i'm having a slight problem with the high e on my 8 string. i'm just wondering if i just caught a duff string.

i tuned to eb. the open string a slight ''nosey'' sounding buzz, not fret buzz, just very nasal. up on the 17 and up frets, there's no sustain at all. just the attack, the nasal buzz, and then nothing.

here's the catch. i lower the tuning to a half step below, and all the offensive noise dissapears. so it's not an action or fret buzz issue. it's a .10 on a 26.5 scale which is what i've always used. it just seems odd that lowering the tension makes the problem go away. duff string? nut issue? the problem shows at the open fret but also dissapears when i lower the tension...

I've found the problem

the high e saddle has too much contact surface with the string. kills sustain and buzzes while the string is firmly seated with the correct tension. will have to file it up a bit.
