Which pup for basswood 7?
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:32:03 AM »
Hi guys, first post!

I've an Ibanez RG1077XL, which is a 27" scale basswood / maple neck / rosewood fretboard.

The full specs are here:
http://jcustom.web.fc2.com/prestige/rg1077xl.htm

It's currently tuned to drop Ab, and with the standard DiMarzio 'custom' pickups, it sounds rubbish and muddy as hell.

Below are 2 songs from Katatonia which kinda get the thing I'd like. Moderate tempo and totally crushing. AFAIK they use EMG.

From my own reading, Warpigs seem to be standing out to me (although I'm not sure about which magnets?). Can these be fit without routing the guitar (as in the pictures it's a full size then the DiMrazio it will be replacing)?

Any other suggestions?

Ceramic warpig in the bridge, cold sweat in the neck.
