Ohh look my sexy guitar smouldering at me from my tasty iMac screen! Phroarww

Yeah point taken Mark with the vocals. I liked them as he did put a lot of gusto into it as you can hear his voice breaking towards the end. Yes he was too loud in the mix but I don't know any of those guys yet and didn't want to be too critical. From reading other posts, he is new to vocals I think. It was done on a Boss MBR. I just felt a bit flattered that he liked it enough to have a go.
You're a proper producer now Mark, "weak and unacceptably flawed performance", although as a producer you have to be like that.  I would be ruthless if I had more skill at this and was doing it for money.

I do remember a bit about this when i recorded it and working towards getting the tone right before the recored button was pressed. But if I'm honest I think I may have got lucky getting that sound like the original. It has caught me out a few times when my ipods on shuffle as I realise its me and not them. Yeah how sad I'm I, listening to myself on my iPod haha!

Every day now something else becomes a little bit clearer with this lark. I could quite easily use all my holidays up if I had any to spare sitting here trying things out. With a big pot of coffee, 24 hours a pop.

Steady mate! Chicken and egg - I've been an anal bar-steward about sound for some time now! (small time 'local' just starting out, giving it a try!) 'producer' -> anal about sound or the other way round? Hmmmmm

I suppose context matters - it wasnt really a serious attempt at 'proper' performance and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he can do better with some picky bar-steward like me (or preferably better) putting up a decent setup for him and going 'again, but this time think about coming in a bit more confidently, and keeping breathing under control' or 'again, but try and really focus on pitch' or some other ego-cushioning thing that you have to do with poor delicate singers  (guitarists I've recorded have been quite receptive to 'again, but this time without sucking!')

I know what you mean; sometimes the planets align and it works, sometimes its a $%&#ing bloodbath trying to get things to sound how you want them to. Its great when it just $%&#ing happens.

I think you got skills though, and am glad that you have the will and means to pursue it, if not the time, cos youre better at it than you let on!
