Ultimate Neck Pickup?

What is a good Neck pup that can handle disortion leads smoothly, not muddy, and when split you can get some Stevie Ray tones out of it? Tim said the Riff Raff, but I have heard endless good things about the Cold Sweat in the neck.

The Cold Sweat is a fantastic neck pickup but if Tim recommends Riff Raff I'd say go with it! The VH2 would be a second choice for me

I think getting great single-coil tones out of a split humbucker is always going to be a bit of a problem.

What guitar's it going in?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

If tim said riff raff, then you get the riff raff.

The only time I've ever sent a BK back for replacement was when I didnt take tims advice, because I was fixed on something else. I got what he advised (as usual) and it was spot on (as usual).

If its off the mark for whatever reason, then you have a familiar reference point for memmers of the forum (and tim) to advise a replacement.

The CS neck lore is as a humbucker. Its a superb pickup. Its also only one of several that I've used from BK that satisfy the smooth lead distortion requirement but I never tried to get SRV tones from anything, ever, and as philly says, split HBs are notoriously non-single-coily, in tone even though thats what they are electrically. Youre likely going to have to expect tonal compromise.

Follow the master. I did not too and returned them aswell and he warned me that rebell yells where no near as middy as nailbombs or holy divers. The CS neck is a really smooth and nice pickup but to me its too modern and fluid sounding for what you want.

riff raff is an interesting choice of tims, but i can kind of see why. its very biting, i expect it will be quite stratty when split.

Its going in a Gibson Les Paul. Right now Im using the 490R, and it sound pretty good but a bit muddy. When split it sounds pretty good IMO, but i feel i want something a bit more clear but also being war, at the sams time.

Make sure you get a 4 conductor cable and wire the pickup for series/parallel!

A parallel Stormy Monday or Riff Raff in the neck slot will sound VERY single coil-like!!

I also thought about the Mule. I e-mailed Tim with more explanation of what i wanted and he said they split well and sound perfect in LP's.
