i just got back from doing my theory.   its a silly test, but happily i passed it all,  multiple choice with 49/50... apparently i lost a mark on 'attitude' :)

the practice sessions i have been doing really bugged me though, every now and again you get a really stupid question... two in paricular stand out - will try to remember them, wording may not be quite right

* what percentage of greenhouse gases come from cars.
 - the answers were 10, 20, 30 or 40 %

where am i supposed to know this information from? how will knowing the answer make me a better driver?... then i wonder about the science behind the statistic, how much it could vary by location and things like that

* A new driver is involved in an accident.  the most common cause of accidents in young drivers is:
- cant remember all the answers on this but the two i do are 'showing off or being competative' or 'being hesitant at junctions'

I was quite shocked when the actual answer was the showing off one... seemed rather prejudiced

@wez
Agreed on the emissions question as that wasn't even on the radar when I did it a year ago...

Not only that but none of those answers are correct as the total of all human endeavour only counts towards an estimated 3/4% of total 'greenhouse' emissions globally.

well it may not have said 'greenhouse gases' exactly but the questions was worded that way with some kind of eco-buzzword ... apparently the answer they wanted was 20%

I totally agree Wez. I did my theory a few months back (congrats on the pass by the way), and I got similarly stupid questions.

You did way better than me on the written though, think i only got about 44 or 45. What was your mark on the Hazard perception?

57/75 on the hazard perception which is lower than i got on most of my practice runs - i found that really easy once i had a suitable technique. At first i was worried about clicking too much and was apparently clicking too soon.  once i started clicking 3 times for each hazard i was  safely passing it every time.

Sounds like the test is now like Guitar Hero.  Thank God I didnt have do this shitee.

My bugbear is still no compulsory motorway driving test,  I went on the motorway the same day I passed my test, alone with no experience, its bloody stupid.

Motorway driving is really easy, though.

It's just tragically dull...

Depends upon the Motorway. The M25/M23 combination I use, when not stationary, is sometimes quite manic with craziness abounding trying to gain a one car length advantage over everyone else-changing lanes without looking/waring and overtaking wrecklessly..and thats just me. At least, though, everyone is going the same way...at least in theory.
