NPD: Biyang OD-8
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:31:41 PM »
This finally arrived today well it actually arrived on thurs but i was away.

I much prefer this to the previous pedals ive had which to be honest is only the Digitech Bad Monkey & the Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer

its a very transparent overdrive and the 3 different modes on it are great

Im not too fond on the highly rated JCR4558 op amp im really digging the NE5532 though.

the main thing that intrigued me by this pedal was the quickly interchangeable opamps (comes with 3 different ones) and the three different OD modes.

The clips that are on this site are absolutely appalling and do not represent the pedal in anyway shape or form

I shall post some clips up using it and possibly do a shootou with the ibanez TS9 tomorrow.

I have one too, I like the ne5532 the best too. However, the reliability on the other couple of biyangs I've had has been suspect- the od8 has been fine, though.

which other biyangs do you have? the acoustic simulator is looking quite appealing to me.

Also have you seen the newer series of amplifiers they make under the name Wangs? they also look interesting but i believe my interest in them is purely so i can have an amp that says Wangs on it

i haven't seen the wangs, but LOL

I've got the fuzz and the phaser as well, I haven't tried the acoustic simulator. :)

I've been using the DS8 Mouse for a year now and it seems quite reliable so far (and sounds great FWIW).
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

yeah the ones i have sound pretty good, but I've had horrible reliability problems... out of the ones I've had, my first fuzz died. The replacement seems ok (though occasionally can be a little crackly when touching the mode switch). The first phaser I was sent was dodgy too, got a replacement sent which is also dodgy, but at that point i just cba sending it back any more, so I cut my losses.

Anyway, that's a failure rate, if my maths are right, of about 60% (and that's not counting the second fuzz!)... Maybe I was incredibly unlucky, but it gets to the point where, as I said, you just want to cut your losses.

yeah, my od8 has been fine from day 1. maybe if you get one that's ok from the get-go, it'll be fine.
