There has always been one thing that has put me off the S models.

And thats the pointless little cr@ppy bit of plastic around the selector switch it just isnt needed.

I however love how the gutiars play and sound.

I have however spotted some newer models that dont have the bit of plastic so i may look into one for the future.

Exactly - they look much classier than the RGs...then they throw on the bit of plastic.

Other than that, glorious looking guitar TS.

I always assumed that's there because the body's so thin at the edge it isn't deep enough for the 5-way switch to sit all the way under the top?

They've always had the plastic cover AFAIK, even on the old Saber and Frank Gambale models 20 years ago.

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Interesting Philly, I am have seen newer models in stores that dont have them and the screws just sit nicely in the body maybe theyve made the route a bit shallower to compensate.

Well, you know Ibanez is hardly my specialist subject, I could most certainly be wrong!

But I have a couple of '80s catalogues with the early RG, Radius (JS-style), Power and Saber models.  They made a big thing about the thinness of the Saber/S body, and it's the only one with that black plastic bit - it just looks like it's there to raise the switch up an extra couple of mm.

I suppose that makes sense actually. I didn't really consider that. Still is a nasty blemish on an otherwise great looking guitar though, even if it is practical.

Maybe they designed a new switch which fits the thin body?  Aaaah, I dunno!

Maybe, you never know the new zero edge trems that they have on them are very interesting too, i dont quite get how they work you can drop tune it without everything going out of tune.
