Rewinds?
« on: October 28, 2010, 09:38:32 PM »
can anyone tell me what i need to do about getting an 8string pickup rewound into an "aftermath">? i have an agile 8 string cepheus to send in, or i just got a brand new Coldsweat 8. I dont mind the clarity, but i guess i dont jive with the "paf" feel. i need more output.

im not entirely sure as to what pickups BK does and does not rewind.

i wouldnt mind having the cs8 i have rewound to aftermath specs. i doubt i could exchange it as i went through the axe palace here in the US.

thanks guys!

I don't mean to speak for Tim here, but I don't think thats really possible bro. The Aftermath uses 3 custom ceramic magnets, special pole pieces, types of wire, etc. I don't think merely rewinding your Agile pickup will make it sound like The Aftermath. Could he make it sound a LOT better however? Hell yeah. Depending on the specs of your Agile, there may be other models that would be ideal too. Getting 8-strings to sound their best is tricky, so I'd make careful decisions about what pickups to put in there. If you want my help/advice, hit me up (you know me ;)). Otherwise I'm sure Tim or someone at BKP will chime in.

More than the magnets is the fact that its double screw pole.

I dont believe its possible, no.

Yeah I mentioned that too ;)  But yeah, I agree it's probably not possible.

Errr...no you didnt ;) As in that there are 2 rows of screw poles, no slugs, not that the poles themselves are special (which I didnt know). Anywho, not important;

In summary: its decidedly unlikely.

well i have a cs8 in there now and i dont like it.

i am well aware that the aftermath is a dual allen pole design with 3 custom ceramic magnets. i didnt want to post a question saying can he rewind, change my poles, and swap magnets to the aftermath spec cause im lazy, but thats what i meant.

i just assumed that if theyre rewinding it, and i saw charges for pole swaps and mag swaps on the rewinds page that they could just do all that in the rewind process.

wonder what happens if i replace my slugs in the cs8 with allens will do. im debating on having a custom pup builder redo my cs8. i like the tone, its just not hot enough.

i'm bound to send my CS8 for a rewind to a Riff Raff 8 and there's the rewind charge per coil an the magnet change charge. on the opposite of you, the cold sweat is too hot and compressed for my tastes.

tim said about 5 GBP for the magnet swap from ceramic to alnico 5. best thing is to email him. must've exchanged 10 emails on the subject over the course of a morning, and it was settled right that day too. just need to send the pickup to him.
