Neck pickup SG P90 or MQ?
« on: December 19, 2005, 06:26:50 PM »
in a bit of a dilemma....
i want a really clean and warm neck pup for my Gibson SG Special that can also cut it when distorted. Which would be better for this a P90 or Mississipi Queen? If anyone thinks any other neck pup could do this and more then im open to options...cheers :-)
Mark
edit: im into playing a lot of Muse and Radiohead

It depends on what routing you have in the neck position of your guitar. If you have a humbucker go for the Mississippi queen, If you have a P90 route go for a regular P90.

Hi OMP. I have the routed P90s on my SG special, and yes they give the warm, clean sound. Alnico V( I can not read very well the Ks) and alnico III around 8K. They just sing man :)

As far as I understand it, the MQ is just a BKP90 resized for a humbucker mounting, so you'll get the tone either way.

If you have P90 holes go for P91s
If you have humbucker holes go for MQs - and ask for them to be P91 wound

I reckon that Alnico 4 neck and Alnico 5 bridge would be awesome.

P91 wound? Man theres even more options popping up now...i've kinda always been set on a P90. Would a P91 wound MQ really be the dogs bollocks?
