Need help...
« on: December 22, 2005, 12:28:50 AM »
I have an Epiphone G400 Custom. Great guitar except the pickups suck majorlyand once I can get some money Im going to replace all 3 hum's. I already know that im going to replace then neck and bridge position pickups with gold, ceramic magnet warpigs but I am in a dilema as to what kind of p/u i should put in the middle position. Im realy drawn between the Gibson Tony Iommi Sig or another gold Ceramic Warpig. What do u guys think?

I think a great combo would be Warpig set in the bridge and neck with a mississippi queen in the middle. As well as being able to get a serious amount of tones from the combo, it would be visually striking with a double screw, single middle row and another double row.

that ddefinatly sounds awesome and i never actualy considerd the mq be4, however, ive never played a P90 pickup before and from what ive heardthey are basicaly just single coils with a bit more bite.(?) Im looking to gwt a sound that will have ALOT of oldskool drive and bass end growl. I play alot of black sabbath and judas priest so I want to have a sound that will suite my playing style.

P90s/MQs are more than just a single coil with a bit more bite - if by single coil you mean the Fender sound.  P90s/MQs can give h/bs a run for their money in terms of drive but have that added width and clarity.

Think Black Sabbath's first album for the direction MQs can go should you wish to take them there   .

That's the stock wind - but if you telephone Tim and give him your sonic requirements he will wind the MQs to match the warpig (or whatever you want) - BKP do a Pig 90 (although its not yet advertised) - so they can do a MQ version of the Pig 90.  Give them a call - you effectively get a custom made pup if you explain what you want (reason no.76 why BKP rule.)

Personally I think a ceramic MQ would not be necessary.

No, P90, pig90, MQ are single coil, the Warpig is a humbucker.

Output volume wise will be the same, P90's are supprisingly powerful. We've sold quite a few sets of warpigs and Mississippi queen sets and have had great results.

the more i think about it the morei think a hum sized Pig-90 might be exactly what im looking for. Something that wouldnt be EXACTLY like the reg. Warpig but would still retain some of its characteristics... hmmmmm :D
