Bridge rec for a Schecter omen 8?
« on: December 07, 2010, 06:15:25 PM »
So I got a BNK cold sweat in a couple of days ago and got it installed in my Omen 8.

Which was a bad idea - because now I have to get a coil tap and another BNK for the bridge. ; )

Anyone have any bridge rec's?

The body is basswood - neck is maple w. Rose wood finger board.

String Gauges are .63-.007 (B-E-A-D-G-C-E-A) tuning.

Sonically - I sort of alternate between bill frisell/torn type of looped textures - soundscapes and typical dirty/clean rock guitar.  This guitar is going to be gigging a bit in a free jazz/doom outfit with possible Djent style riffing and needs to cover a lot of ground sonically.

Thanks all!

Alnico Nailbomb is supposed to be the most versatile pickup available so that might be a good choice. It's certainly the one I'm looking to get for that very reason and it should go very well with a Cold Sweat in the neck.

Odd tuning. Any particular reason for it being all in fourths up to a point then a sudden change and all the way up to a high A rather than the usual going lower with an 8?

I wanted to expand the range of the instrument up and down.

In terms of the tuning - by moving the B up to C - I can keep a 3rd between the 2nd and 3rd strings and transfer all of my 2 string visualizations from 6 string to 8 string.

There's an explanation of the approach here:

which I just adapt to 8 string.

I get ye, I would've assumed with that approach you might as well go the whole hog and have B,E,A,D,G,C,F,Bb. Didn't occur to me about keeping the top three as your used to.

Do you use the highest string much when it's away up at that pitch?

Everything I do is based on modular 2 and 3 string shapes so yes - I use the high A a lot.

In addition to chording - the Omen is a little chunky at the neck joint (from about the 17th fret up).  So it makes it much easier to get the high tones as well.
