CS, PK: bridge PU advice for Paula type guitar
« on: December 22, 2010, 09:10:39 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice for choosing a PU upgrade for the bridge position of my guitar. It's a korean all-mahagony set-in neck guitar, Les Paul shape with a thinner body (similar to the Ltd EC-401 series). I'm quite happy with the stock neck PU but the bridge PU lacks of everything - mainly playing some hardrock/heavy stuff (tuning normally standard E, sometimes dropped-D or standard D).

I thought about a Cold Sweat or a Painkiller. Currently the guitar is mainly used at home for being used through a Mofo30 +2x12" or alternatively for some recording via a USB interface. What the current bridge PU is missing is a well defined tone with nice bottom-end and this kind of nice rhythm guitar kick (don't know how to describe it more precisely).

Thanks in advance, wishing you all recreative Christmas days!

Best regards from Germany,

Dali

The Cold Sweat sounds like a good choice for you. It works particularly well in mahogany, producing a very 'Gibson-like' tone. I found it could go all the way from clean to very heavy gain and should thrive in what you play.

Thanks for the fast reply. What about the new Aftermath, would this work, too? Or is this a complete other direction compared to the Cold Sweat?
