Snowy Predicament
« on: December 19, 2010, 09:41:50 AM »
Apart from waking up instantly today as if I was a meerkat with my young in danger, the snow, as most of you can see is still out there.

In nutshell:

BMI cancelled all flights until Monday 10am,
My flight is at Monday 8pm,
BMI will/have a backlog of people from Friday (i.e. three days)

Rail is shite, now shiteter. Belfast City is frozen/snowed under.

I already booked and spent more to re-book this flight but chances right now are against me.

Options:

Stay here.
Go home.
"Would you like some lemon oil?"
"Oh, no thanks, I don't eat fruit."

The delayed people will have to be "fitted in", they won't bump you to travel them.

Travel as planned  :)

Agreed.

But I heard conditions in NI were the worst for 25 years.  So I wouldn't bank on everything being OK by Monday....

I already went ahead and made a tw@t of myself and cancelled.

So I'm not going home, I'm going to be on my lonesome for my 21st and Christmas and my dad has made me feel like the most miserable man alive.

I like this time of the year.

Sorry to hear that!  What's your dad done? (feel free to tell me to mind my own business!!!)

That's a bummer, sorry to hear that...

We cancelled several family get togethers over the last weekend - one of which I was extremely happy about, the other less so. At the moment we're looking at celebrating some bits of christmas sometime in January... er, hopefully!

But I'm slightly older, wiser mebbe, and definitely more cynical about family stuff...  when I was 21 I would have been gutted, so I know how you feel :( ... hope something works out so you don't feel quite so isolated.

I spent a Christmas on my own a few years ago.  I was in sydney and lost my phone and could not get to the xmas day BBQ as I lost the contact that knew where we were going.

Gutted I decided to go for a curry on my own near my flat.  All was going well until I tried to order some wine and the guy said 'Sorry we don't serve alcohol'.

That's when I felt really bad :(

So stock up on booze now!!!

I've spent several Christmases on my own, but not in the last 15 years or so.

It's alright actually, so long as you don't dwell on the fact that you're "supposed" to be seeing famer-lee.  Quite nice to be away from all the bullsh!t.  It's just another day really.

+1

I've spent a few on my own... I agree with Philly, if you can forget what it's "meant" to be like it's actually very pleasant.

The first one was a bit tough - the 1st wife left me, taking the kids, on the 18th December, and that was the highlight of that holiday . Obviously, I found it quite hard to deal with that particular one. But the next couple were pretty relaxed and enjoyable compared to some I'd had before (and since actually!)
