new member pickup suggestion

hey guys, i'm getting rid of my duncan blackouts ahb-1's.  Im just looking for more tone and character out of my pickup.  I currently play through and axe fx ultra and my guitar is a esp eclipse II.  I play in standard tuning "eadgbe"  I like a tight base response and a higher output pickup.  But the cleans are very important to me.  I would like to also state that i have never owned a guitar that had passive pickups in them, at least not for long but i am familiar with many makes and styles. I mostly play progressive metal and classic rock.  Let me know what you guys think.  I am thinking the aftermath, i have checked out alot of sound samples and think it sound great, just want to know if it is equally suited for standard tuning. It is also important for the pickup to give me as much freedom sonically to use with the axe fx's many amp models. thanks! ~ Mike

I think a Nailbomb set would be a great place to start here - enough output to get as aggressive as anyone could want, but not at the expense of the clean tones. It's got an exceptionally open and dynamic sound for its output, and and is a real "chameleon" of a pickup that should give you a solid foundation for any of the sounds you could want.
The Aftermath is surprisingly versatile too, and if you like how it sounds I wouldn't dissuade you from going for it. Especially in a singlecut guitar like yours you can expect plenty of meat to put weight behind the standard tuning. Personally I found the super-tight low end to be a bit stiff when used for more traditional tones, but that is only in comparison with some of the more organic pickups in the range.

I'd say alnico nailbombs as well
the bridge pickup is surprisingly hot and loud an alnico 5 pickup and it's also pretty tight in near standard tunings

if you weren't so worried about output, I'd say holy diver
