BKP Advice for use with tone control @ zero...
« on: March 20, 2011, 06:13:42 PM »
I don't know why I like it - I just do.

I simply cannot stand much high fizz in my tone. If I had my way - I would like to have a Mark Knopfler metal tone :) Something just sweet and clear - but still nice and heavy.

I currently play both my US Strat and Yamaha Pacifica with the bridge and middle p/u's selected for my rhythm tone. I drop the height of the middle and LOVE the 'quack' or half c--ked wah tone it gives.

As stated in my other thread - I'm looking to overhaul the Phoenix Pacifica as my C standard Doom/Stoner/Rock machine. Now, my main goal is a smooth, clear/fluid as possible yet heavy tone. Attached is an example of my current setup as a guide.

Now, I'm not sure when the tone is rolled off to '0' how much the pickup plays a part - along with the pot values and capacitor/s used. I'd certainly appreciate some advice on how to keep a fluid sound yet have that 'X' factor that MY ears get from playing guitar this way.

I'm looking for a H/S/S setup in this guitar - but am leaning towards a HB P90 in the bridge as I feel this might 'clean up' better with the tone on zero. My strat certainly seems more articulate with it's single coils vs my Pacifica with the Kent Armstrong Rocker and Seymour Duncan selected. I would like a more focused, yet open sound if that makes sense - but very much fluid for leads and trills etc.

It's all a tone journey - and I know Bareknuckles can help with this quest - so as much help/info as possible please!

PS- the clip attached might well have a whiff of Matt Pike about it as I have been listening to High on Fire all morning... \m/

Maybe you should try the Holydiver instead. It's one of the sweetest sounding pickups BKP makes.

Can't give much more advice. I personally never use the tone controls.
