Dodgy Window Cleaners
« on: March 17, 2011, 08:35:09 PM »
Slightly long post warning but there is an amusing video link at the bottom.

A while back we had a guy come round asking if we wanted our windows cleaned. I thought sure, why not. £20 later and he had done what I'd rate as a 5 out of 10 job. He asked me if I wanted them done next month to which I responded "err, no thanks".

So, the next  month comes around and he's knocking at my door. I told him I wasn't interested to which he responded that he told me he would be around and that I had agreed a contract with him. Hmm. I told him I wasn't interested so he walked off muttering. Another few weeks goes by and he knocks on my doorbell at 21:40 asking if I can "lend a couple of quid to pay the phone bill". After I said no he said "I can do your gardening for a fiver. Your windows will need doing as there is 10ft (!!!) of snow on the way. When can I start?" His eyes were all over the place so assume he was on something.

Shortly after that his boss came round to "collect". I explained the situation to him and his boss was not happy. Basically said he was going to sack him in the morning as other customers had said he was being gobby with them.

So, I thought nothing of it until I explain this and what the window cleaner looks like to Jane's brother. He starts laughing and shows me this video:

This is the window cleaner. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or just amused!

He's not been around for the last 4 months so he may have got the message.
I think I hate being indecisive.

£20? Our window cleaner charges £7 and does a decent job. Alright guy too.

But seriously the real question is, are you a wizard?

Nice to see 'care in the community' is working so well...

Gotta say, I'm amazed you let him clean the windows.  Those teeth and eyebrows would've been enough to scare me off.  :o

Yeah - me too. Think he caught me on a happy day where I'm kind to most people.

Apparently there is a bit of a sad history with him. According to local stories he has been beaten up pretty badly a few times and it has messed with his brain. He's quite often seen, and heard, walking round the streets singing "Glory Glory Man UTd" in a very loud manner.

Obviously he's deserving of sympathy, but unless you have natural "caring" skills, it's hard to cope with people like that.

The house next door to me is full of Care in the Community types.  They're forever leaving lights blazing all night, standing out in the garden shouting nonsense or getting into fights with each other (most Saturday evenings there's a visit from a police van and/or ambulance).  I know it's not their fault, but frankly they are $%&#ing annoying.  I have to wonder if it's the best way of looking after such people.  :|

ours is called owl.  called that because he has massive eyes

he has ridden around burton on a a chopper style bicycle for as long as i remember.  He also did the occasional rap and i remember us taking the piss when i was about 14 .... still see him riding around on the chopper!

We also had old ted who some suggested should have a statue.  old ted was a guy we all assumed was a tramp who was constantly pushing trolleys around collecting them for supermarkets.  He had a proper ZZ top beard with extra nicotine stains from the tiny rollups he constantly smoked.  Then we got a new sainsburys and they specifically asked him not to touch there trolleys for fear it would harm their image... what a bloody mistake!!

'trolley' ted became a bit of a martyr.  Then he died and we all got to learn that he was not homeless afteral, actually owned his home and had a fair amount of savings.  just an old fella in an overcoat with a little rolly who didnt like people leaving trolleys about

I like the sound of trolley ted. Sainsburys should have employed him as a trolley organiser!
