Jem pickups - similar to Evos?
« on: March 27, 2011, 07:29:45 PM »
I've got an awesome Jem blue floral pattern that currently has a pair of Dimarzio Evolutions.  I really like these pickups so I would like some BKPs that have a similar output and EQ but with a more open, less dull, congested tone.

So essentially I want a tight, smooth, clear bridge pickup with lots of output and harmonics and a fat, punchy, warm neck pickup.  I'd like to keep the upper mid peak that makes these pickups sound wonderfully "elastic" and give it that "awwwww" sound for leads, but keep it from sounding to muffled and nasally for chords, so some combo of the thickness for leads and clarity for chords.

Does such a pickup exist?

Looks like a Miracle Man/Cold Sweat-combo, or a calibrated Cold Sweat-set.

Looks like the CS neck is an obvious choice, between the CS and MM bridge I have a few questions:
Which is more compressed?
Which is fatter/thicker?
Which gets better pinched harmonics?
Which sounds clearer for 3/4 note chords under high gain?

I've read that the Aftermath sounds quite hairy and grainy, if this is true then I would be more inclined to try the AM as the description makes it sound quite similar to the Evo.  However Tim just emailed me back suggesting a CS set, I suppose I should probably take his advice  :D
