At the moment I've got a Cort X-11 with the NB/CS set and a Tanglewood Les Paul with the MMs. I'm thinking about swapping the sets around a bit, but I don't have a soldering iron, so I'll need to pay to get it done. So before I do anything, can anyone say what to expect?

I use the Cort in standard or half-step down for a mix of rock and metal. Stuff like Opeth, Tool, Metallica, etc. It's a standard basswood/maple bolt-on super strat.

The Tanglewood is in C or B standard (might bring it a bit higher next string change) for things like In Flames and Arch Enemy. Normal mahogany Les Paul style guitar.

Amp's an Engl Screamer w/MXR Wylde Overdrive.

So, what would you BKP forumers do here?

More just curious. They both sound great, but in the back of my mind I think "could they be greater?" I used to use the Cort for low stuff, but the LP works better, but thats MMs vs NB/CS...

How is the Nailbomb for opeth? I currently have a Holydiver in my les paul and i love it, but sometimes it feels overly fat.

Not sure about in a LP (hence this thread really), but here's a clip I did a few days ago with the Cort and POD Farm.

in my opinion you're "wasting" the NB-CS set in a basswood guitar, and downtune a 24.75 scaled les paul that would perform better in standard E. so my suggestion is Tanglewood with NB/CS tuned in E or Eb and Cort with MM in B or C.

Funnily enough, it was a post by about ceramics being better in basswood that put the thought in my head to begin with.

i agree! ceramics are better in basswood guitars - at least in my experience - and since basswood is quite soft on note attack i can see why...

Get a soldering iron and your problems are solved  :D

They might not be solved, but it'll be much cheaper doing pickup swaps out of interest.

I got a NB in a LP clone in standard tuning (drop D sometimes) and it's quite versatile. I mostly play rock and hard rock - sometimes bordering metal. It took me a while to get used to the aggressiveness of the NB, but now I like it. Might wanna give it a shoot.

Think that's what I'll do:

NB/CS in the LP with high tunings
MMs in Cort for low

I'll sort it out in the next few days - eith pay, find someone I know to do it or try it myself. Last chance if anyone has a major case to give for the other combos.
