4x12 speakers?
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:37:01 PM »
I'm thinking of swapping out the old 55Hz G12H's in my 4x12 as I'm really liking the Classic Lead 80 in my 1x12.

The only thing with the CL80 is the bottom end - might be too much with four of them.

Possibly two CL80s and two.... ?????? (Tayden Brit 60s perhaps) ???????

Anyone? (I really don't like V30s btw, so they are a no-go).

I've CL80s and V30's and I didn't like that.

I have played a Tayden loaded 2x12 and it sounded really really good, so good that some point I want to replace all the celestions in my 4x12.
That cab included a Great Brit and a True Brit Hi.
Frank JPF is the guy to ask when it comes to Tayden. I'd say its definitely worth looking into.

the other consideration is that I rarely use my 4x12 any more, so maybe just sell it and get a 2x12? - I'm undecided on this  :|

I, like you, am not a fan of V30's but they work really well with g12h's. That's what I have in my Diamond 4x12. Still prob not what I would go with for home playing but works well with the band. If you're anywhere near the north west you can come and give it a try if you like.

thanks for the offer mate, but I'm in Newcastle.

I did some A/B'ing of the 4x12 with the G12H's against my 1x12 with a Classic Lead 80 and the 1x12 was my fave - smoother and fatter.

Its weird how your tastes change - I used to LOVE that 4x12 and everyone who hears it thinks its the 4x12 created personally by the gods.  Maybe the years of cranking 50w Selmers through 4x12s has knackered my hearing.
