Not sure where to start  :?

If you're wanting pickup suggestions it would help to know more about the style of music you play and the sound you're looking for.

the sound i'm looking for...nolly's demo of the mules were good.looking for thunder &l lightning loud with flexibility, not a [one trick pony] spetiallty sound. you can pump it up but you can't dumd it down.

Mules don't always seem to work that well in Explorers. It's a big chunk of wood that already adds to the bass and midrange.

Riff Raffs have been a popular choise for vintage sounding Explorers.

It's certainly a lot of dark wood and I'm afraid I have little experience of anything other than the contemporary range of pickups. If Mules don't work well in an Explorer, clearly you need something else. The Rebel Yells will certainly cut through but it will be a very different sound to Mules. Perhaps something quite bright from the Vintage Hot range? Emeralds perhaps?

thank you for the inputs, right now Long-mcquade is having a sale on negative 58 explorer & negative 67 flying v [145.00 canadien difference] as apposed to korina models.[building a few guitars, to start with, for charity, a polite word for people in extreme dire need, hence, Samaritan's purse]. Uhm , i'm a newb on the gibson side of things so need help on ordering parts other than just pickups.POts, switches and capacitors[you usually get what you pay for,
so for the innards of the instrument I want the good stuff. The creative side on the guitar bodies i'll choose and take responsability for.

I have a Korina LP I just ordered Rebel Yells for last week. I'll post a thread when I get them and put them through their paces.

i do agree ratrod, but it is korina, so i think mules would work well. i'd give 'em a go anyway ;)

good luck with those rebel yells!

I'd pick the korina one
do not trust painted epiphone models
I've seen at least a dozen of 90's and 2000's epiphones with 10+ pieces of alder or basswood, plywood, mdf and all sort of cr@p

Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
