Been caught speeding
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:33:55 AM »
About a month ago I got pulled over by an unmarked police bike. I'd alledgedly been doing between 100 and 105 on the A1.

Has anyone else had experience of this? I have court date later this month. My license at this point is clean. Apparently I can expect a fine and a one/two month ban or a fine and 6 points. Luckily for me my job at this time can be done without need to drive myself or I would have been out of work if I got banned.

Grr.

I think points are better than a ban for future insurance purposes.
Not 100% certain.

There is less stigma with points with any future employers if you can wrangle it

Well my boss is going to write a letter to the court to ask that I don't get banned. As most if our work us for the police (irony there somewhere) it might steer them towards points over a ban.

And I thought exactly the same!

I admit I thought it when writing it. Great album it on. Three days is their best track IMHO.

you write as if you weren't doing that sort of speed.. do the police have dodgy evidence do you think? maybe you can challenge it..

If he was just going by his speedo, maybe you have some room to argue here? I'm no expert, but it seems like worth having a go!

edit:
and the best of luck in all this by the way. i don't have much love for the traffic police

Over 100mph you'll lose your license automatically if you're found guilty, I think? That was my understanding.

Have you got a lawyer? I think the chances of not being found guilty are all but zero unless you've a lawyer to challenge things extensively; how recent the camera/device was calibrated and things. I'm going on half remembered stuff from when I used to work with a couple car-modding fanatics who were always getting caught at daft speeds.

Have to say though, if you were sitting at over 100mph, you probably deserve to lose it.

As far as I know doing 30 mph over any speed limit results in an automatic ban. I got a month for doing 102.

I quite agree. Not trying to cause offence but I just don't understand the need or desire to drive way over the speed limit. It doesn't really prove anything!
