Help - humbucker for a esp mh
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:43:35 AM »
Hello guys, I got a Esp Mh 307, it's mahogany with rosewood fretboard neck-tru 7 strings... At moment I'm using EMG 707 and 81-7. I played EMG for really several years, and I still like them but I don't know why I wanna try something different, something with more clarity and definition in sound but I still want brutality haha. I ran my guitar over a peavey 6505 with NS and od808, at home I use an axe-fx to play and record. The sound i play its like: Whitechapel, Beneath The Massacre, Veil Of Maya, After The Burial, Periphery, Volumes etc etc (Some deathmetal /deathcore/ djent).

I saw the Nailbombs, Aftermath and Painkiller but I'm not sure about any pickups, some people say Aftermath is only good for basswoods so I don't know. Can you guys help me please?

Really thanks,

Vinnie Mallet.

Not an expert on this, but a Miracle Man should provide the clarity and the grind.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

hey man thanks for the reply! I don't know if it is a good choice because miracle man don t have so much mid.. and mids are really important for me. I really like the Aftermath and Nailbomb but will be a good choice for a mahogany guitar?

I find the ABomb bridge just great on my SG - clarity: yes, a lot, definition: idem, brutality: well, it's certainly much more abrasive and chunky than a vintage voiced / PAF-like pup and brutal enough for my own needs, but I'm not doing metal so I can't tell if it would match *your* definition of "brutality"
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Yes, I understand what you mean, Abomb its a good choice, I just want something different from EMG but something in the same way, when i mean brutality it's like: a hot and warm pickup for leads (neck PU) and a very distorted sound (bridge PU) but with some clarity, sometimes I really don't think EMG has the clarity I need. I found that clarity in Aftermaths but they sound too bass for me don't know why (I just saw some clips of Misha playing with them). It's a little hard to explain what I'm looking for but it's like: I want a pickup with clarity, definition but at the same time a PU with a lot of hi gain output that i can do brutal palm mutes and listen brutal chords but with clarity. I also play in Drop A w/ a seven string guitar. The Body is mahogany.
