Warpig in SG - pickup advice
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:44:55 AM »
Hi,
I am after some advice: I have an SG with Bare Knuckle Warpig installed in bridge position- into an old valve amp - no pedals, shenanigans, crank up amp for 'classic rock' sound etc  I am finding the sound to be a bit too toppy/present even with treble on amp right down low (no presence) Adjusting the tone on guitar helps but i kind of like everything on 10.

Does anyone know if adjusting the pole pieces in pickup would help or even getting a cover?

Or do i just have the wrong pickup - I chose the Warpig in order to drive the amp, other suggestions welcome.
Cheers.

did you try adjusting the height of the pickup?
when holding down the string on the last fret, I have the low E at 2mm from bottom of string to top of top row allen bolt....and high E about 3mm away.

If it is a regular Sg with volume and tone pots then try swapping the ceramic disc capacitors to Paper in oil versions
The BKP/Jensen one is good but may be a bit large to get into an SG , although a Vitamin Q one will work well.
Maybe also switch to 50s wiring configuration too
I found that doing this added more richness to the tone

Also take an allen key and wind the polepieces back into the pickup so they are only just peeking over the top of the plastic work. This can take a little bite out of the Pig- worth trying as you can always revert to how it was before.
