best pickup setup for post-rock/hardcore
« on: July 16, 2011, 02:56:16 PM »
hey guys, I'm definitely looking to get some new pickups for my PRS SE Custom 24. I was thinking about getting a new guitar, but I just love the feel of this instrument over most other guitars I've played. However the pickups leave a little to be desired. That's why I'm here of course!

My band right now is a hardcore band with some post-rock/ambient influences. So, I'm looking for some pickups where I could get a nasty OD/Distortion with, as well as a very tight and clear clean tone. I play in drop tunings mostly, my most used tuning is CGCFGC (DADGAD dropped a whole step). I play out of a Fender Twin Reverb with an OCD OD and  USA Big Muff for my OD/Dist. I'm looking for a Russian Circles-esque tone. I was leaning toward the Miracle Man pickups, but after thinking I may be better suited with a Miracle Man in the bridge and something else in the neck. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Cold Sweat is great for the neck.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Maybe a Cold Sweat set. I think the bridge will give you clarity in your downtuned guitar, but I'm no expert on the subject. If you want a more aggressive bridge pickup you could go for a Nailbomb and pair it with a Cold Sweat neck.
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)

I may go with this combo, I wanna go with a pretty agressive pickup in the bridge. And the Cold Sweat sounds perfect for the cleaner prettier parts that I'd use the neck pick up for.
