NB set- to tone pot or not to pot ?

So i pulled the trigger and have a nailbomb set ordered .

 Where do most of you guys stand on tone pots with the nailbombs or bkps in general ?

 I find some pickups like my alternative 8 sound the best with  no tone pot while others sound better with em .

I never use the tone pot so its just the loaded vs unloaded tone of the pickup .

I'm sure I'll try it both ways but a little early info is always a good way to start

I never bother with a tone pot anymore.

If anything i add a passive bass cut to get things a bit tighter.

But even that i rarely bother with.

Currently both of my guitars RGA with MM & MQ And RGD currently no bkps both have no tone pots

The Nailbomb can sound good without a tone pot, as its top end is warm and not too thin. I am currently running it on only one pot, because I somehow managed to kill a pot and I don't have a replacement with a long threading!  :( However, long term I'm going back to volume and tone pot - this particular guitar can benefit from a bit warmer and fatter sound.

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't remove the tone pot on my SG's bridge ABomb - it works just great to fatten / smoothen the tone when needed. FWIW, it's the first time I tend to have the tone pot rolled off a bit most of the time on a 'bucker guitar.

NB: 50s style wiring, PIO caps here.

The tone caps in this guitar are the old stock ones so i'm sure they're ass.

I've got an AM in a Schecter Classic with no tone pot, BUT I do have two 1000k resistors in parallel running from hot to ground that simulates a tone pot. I don't wish to tweak it :p

I use the standard .22nf ceramic capacitors. I have a bunch of them, you can get them very cheap at electronic stores (probably Maplin in the UK or Radio Shack in the US, Conrad in Germany). Guitar stores charge a lot more for them.

I ended up goin no tone  pots on my NB set . Dont get me wrong  they sounded great with the tone pots but I just love that extra openess you get disconecting them .and without the tone pots the volume roll back really seems to warm them up allot.


things just cut through the band that little bit better and sound that little bit more hifi in the mix with no tone pots to me

I do all my customisation and tweaking in the first week of owning a guitar, and the tone pots have never made it past the first day.
