Ceramic Nailbomb/Cold Sweat combo in Les Paul anyone???
« on: July 24, 2011, 03:45:56 PM »
I currently have Aftermath pickups in one of my Les Paul guitars (going to buy another set for my other Les Paul guitar) and I'm moving them into an Alder bodied guitar, and wondered how the C-Bomb and Cold Sweat neck would sound in a Les Paul? My main type of music is metal btw. I'll be playing fast riffs, shredding solos, but also a bit of the more mellower melodic stuff

I heavily considering purchasing an Aftermath for my Les Paul.... how do you like it? Sorry that I can't offer any advice for your question.

It's a great pickup. It's quite dry (but not in a bad way). It kind of eats up your distortion, so you can have ya gain on full, but still regain perfect clarity.

The only players who will not like this pickup are players who have bad technique, use thinner strings, or use bendy picks. The reason I say this is because the Aftermath tracks soo precise, players who like to use thinner strings and picks, just to make it easier to tremelo pick, will have a nasty shock. When you use the right guage for your tuning and a nice sturdy pick, the pickup will sound very articulate, and if your technique is not so good to begin with, it will teach you to really play precise.

Other than that, it sounds heavy, perfect for all types of metal - sounds best downtuned. And has a very full lead sound, which is strange for a Ceramic pickup. This may be due to the increased mids.

If the Les Paul is not too bassy the CS neck should work. I have it in two guitars which are both mahogany bodies with maple tops but double cutaways.

I have never played the C-Bomb, only A-Bomb, and that is paired up with a VHII neck, not a CS neck, so unfortunately I cannot comment on how a C-Bomb and a CS neck would work together.

Cheers Stephan
